What we do:
We maintain the experience and expertise to:
conduct inspections and evaluations on in-service bridges and other structures and advanced inspection and monitoring of structures in-service and in fabrication.
conduct underwater inspections and structural repairs with highly skilled dive Subcontractors!
Perform land surveys and Geo-Tech testing with licensed and certified Subcontractors!
UHSG will identify the problems during inspections and develop and implement the solutions through the proper levels of analysis, development of cost-effective repair alternatives, preparation of repair documents, and field verification that repairs are properly implemented.
Inspection Capabilities include visual, physical, and advanced methods for evaluation of existing bridge and dam structures. Advanced methods include nondestructive methods, structural health monitoring, and destructive testing.
Inspection types include Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM), underwater diving, and complex features using standard and advanced methods as well as small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) and other remotely operated equipment.
Access types include Under bridge Inspection Vehicles (UBIV), rope access, and barge mounted lifts.
Inspectors meet USACE qualification requirements for HSS and bridges. Bridge inspectors are compliant with 2022 National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) including NSTM inspectors and underwater divers.
sUAS platforms are National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) compliant and pilots meet FAA and USACE requirements.
Advanced inspection methods include steel and concrete nondestructive methods. Equipment operators are certified to that being operated and use certified equipment.
UHSG is capable of conducting evaluations that includes access to nationally recognized experts in the fields of fatigue and fracture, risk assessment, forensics engineering, and welding engineering and metallurgy. Evaluation types include:
Load Ratings
Scour Evaluations
Fatigue and Fracture Evaluations
Fitness for Service (FFS) Assessments
Probability of Failure (p(f)) Analysis,
System Redundancy (SRM) and Internal Redundancy (IRM) Determination,
Risk-based Inspection Interval Determination
Advanced Inspection and monitoring include steel and concrete Nondestructive Testing (NDT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).
Steel NDT methods include conventional and advanced Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiograph Testing (RT),
Magnetic particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) Testing.
Technicians are conversant in AWS, ASME, and API codes
Concrete NDT methods include Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Infrared Thermography (IR), Impact Echo
(IE), and High Resolution Imaging (HRI).
SHM methods include strain measurements, structure movement monitoring, structure performance, and
diagnostic testing.
Technicians are certified through ASNT or through internal certification programs and can also be qualified for
job specific requirements through performance testing.
UHSG also provides destructive testing to compliment NDT and to establish material properties.
UHSG provides the following NDT, SHM, and point cloud modeling services.
